If the meanings of the Japanese version and English translation version do not match, the Japanese version takes precedence.

The motif for the products listed here is the rise of the Swiss martial artist Andy Hug (honorifics omitted), who died in the year 2000. As time goes on the number of generations who do not know of him are increasing. He was called the “indomitable iron man” and the “blue-eyed samurai”, and he was extremely popular as a fighter, not only in his native Switzerland, but also in Japan. As his footprint has been discussed in many places around the world, I shall omit it here.

The reason that I chose to use him as a motif in my art is that I “wanted to express myself by depicting the silent scream inside us that reveals the yearning of the soul”. I respect the response to this and consider Andy Hug to be a mentor. In my life until now there have been twists and turns, and I have faced difficult times. However, the vision of Andy Hug picking himself up, however many times he is knocked down, and never giving up has given me the courage to live.

It was my long-cherished ambition, just as I do in these works, to give some vitality, however, small to a large number of people and stimulate them to think. Also, with his lifetime love of Karate, it is said that in the end he wanted to die in Japan.

To all those people who have supported Japan until now, to those people supporting Japan now, and to those who will support Japan moving forward. I hope that it will many different people the opportunity to reflect once again on Japan. Nothing would give me greater pleasure if this provided a small stimulus to make a brighter and better Japan.

I hope you will enjoy looking at the rise of Andy Hug, brought back to life through crayons.
